We are made to work!
We have all had jobs that were pure drudgery for us – we dread showing up each day. We go home exhausted. After each paycheck we wonder if it’s really worth it. We long to have a job that we truly enjoy, that we can be proud of the work we have accomplished.
Did you know that God didn’t design work to be drudgery? God is the Creator of all things and he made us in his image which means he has made us creators as well – with our hands, our minds, our skills. Think about the skills you have that God has given you. Are you good at building things or fixing any kind of motor? Are you the best cook on the block and love to cook for others? Do you love words – reading or writing them? Are you compassionate and caring? Do you find joy in caring for the elderly or sick? Are you an organizer who can put order to the greatest chaos? These, and more, are all God-given skills that can give you joy in the workplace.
Consider exploring how you can put these skills and talents to use in the workplace by connecting with one of our community employment resources. Take a class like Jobs for Life ™ that will help you set a new career path, build a resume, and improve your interview skills with the help of an ally who walks with you through the process. Talk to someone at Virginia CareerWorks about a career assessment and job placement.
