Managing your money

you are not alone!

“The Lord your God…will not leave you or forsake you.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:6

Have you ever had a moment when you felt completely alone? Maybe you weren’t sure how you’d pay for groceries or get your car fixed, and it felt like there was no one to walk with you. Those moments can feel extremely isolating.

God promises in his Word that his people are never truly alone. He is always faithful and never leaves us. If you are feeling alone, you can call out to him, and he will hear and be with you! He always keeps his promises.

God also calls his people to help each other in times of need, and our team wants to help you grow in your skills to take care of your family by managing your money. Here are a few tips:

  • Track your spending. Keep a notebook or just a notes page on your phone, and write down everything you buy for a week or even a month. Or download a budgeting app like Mint, GoodBudget, or Easy Home Finance to track your income and expenses while on the go.  Look back at your list periodically, maybe with someone with more experience in managing money. (Your advocate or another provider in Link2HOPE can help with this!) Are there things you can do to reduce your spending? For example, planning your meals for the week and buying all of the food at once can help you spend less, since many of us often pick up extras we didn’t plan on when we go to the store.
  • Think about savings. Every little bit saved helps! Open a savings account at a local bank or credit union and commit to saving some money from each paycheck.
  • Learn more about managing money in a way that honors God. Join us for a Faith & Finances class. This 12-session class helps you learn about saving, spending, budgeting, and more, while thinking about the purpose of money and how to use it in our lives. You’ll work with an ally, someone with experience in managing his or her money, to learn and grow and make new habits to last a lifetime.
